No. Open ShareTheTab in a modern phone or desktop browser. No installation or account is required. Receipt scanning and sharing updates across devices need an internet connection.

Yes. Use the split bill calculator to add tax and tip to a subtotal or divide a final total that already includes all charges. For different orders and shared dishes, scan a receipt and split by items.

Yes. As the organizer, use Add in the People row and assign each person's items and portions. In the summary, choose Finalize tab once all people and items are included. You can also expand a person's breakdown to review their items separately. Others do not need to open the app; sharing an invitation for live participation is optional.

Cloud splits and receipt photos are scheduled for deletion once they are six months old. Editing a split does not extend that period. Save anything you need before then. Browser history may remain after the shared bill expires.

I built it for dinners with my friends. One person would pay, then work out everyone's share from the receipt. I wanted a browser link where each person could pick what they had and see their total.

Yes. ShareTheTab is free to use, with no account required. Support is optional. The goal is to keep the core experience free, though pricing, retention or account requirements may change as usage grows.

Take a photo or upload a receipt image. AI extracts the items, quantities and amounts. Review and correct the result, including tax, tip and service charges, before sharing. Scans can make mistakes.

Yes. Equal portions divide an item evenly among the people who select it. Portions of 2 and 1 divide it two thirds and one third. These are relative weights, so shares change when someone else selects the item. See how shared dishes, tax and tip are split.

Tax and tip always follow each person's share of the food and drink subtotal. There is no equal-split setting for tax or tip. Service charges have a separate choice: proportional to items or equal across everyone added to the split. Shares are rounded in cents.

Yes. Enter the total tip amount during receipt review. If you add a missing tip later, choose 15%, 18%, 20% or 25% of the food and drink subtotal, enter a custom amount, or choose No tip. Presets exclude tax and service charges. The chosen tip is for the whole bill and is shared proportionally. For a quick total without a receipt, use the split bill calculator.

When everyone expected has been added or joined, every food and drink item is claimed, and each person's selections are confirmed, either by them or the organizer. Unclaimed items and their proportional charges stay unallocated. Check the receipt and total tip before paying. Later edits can change the amounts.

Anyone with the full invitation link or QR code can access and edit the shared bill. Share it only with your group. Names identify participants within the split; they are not account logins.
